Lakes Area Sustainability Fest

Wednesday, June 26, 2024 (1:00 PM - 7:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

Some people may be wondering (because it's a great question) What is sustainability???

Well, there are various definitions to the term but the one that is most agreed upon comes from the Brundtland Commission (that dates back to 1987):

The use and development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

In simple terms

Don’t do things today that make tomorrow worse”

That is what our Sustainability Fest seeks to do, on a smaller scale of course. The Lakes Area Sustainability Fest is a community centered event focused on sustainability in the Central MN region. The event is organized by Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships Coordinators through the University of Minnesota Extension.

The purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity for the Lakes Area community to engage with local organizations and businesses as well as foster the growth of sustainable mentalities and actions that can be adapted through this event. There will be information and family activities centered around local agriculture and food systems, clean energy, natural resources and resilient communities. This as well as having local food vendors, farmers/growers and small businesses wanting to amplify their goods or services. The Lakes Area is a beautiful place and we want to make sure it stays that way but also make sure it thrives for future generations
