Have you wondered what it takes to run for elected office? Have you considered running this year… or maybe down the road? At the Chamber, our goals are to demystify the process and inspire pro-business candidates to take the next step!

This 2-hour workshop will cover:

  • Candidate filing and deadlines
  • Campaign reporting requirements
  • How to manage and finance an effective campaign
  • Essential materials, media and door-knocking
  • Party endorsements (for state and federal candidates)
  • What it’s like to run and serve

Who should attend:

  • New candidates who intend to run for office this year
  • Those considering a run in the future, even if it’s a few years from now
  • Incumbents who wish to sharpen their skills
  • An employee or co-worker who needs your encouragement!

Past workshop attendees include two state legislators, a city council member, a mayor, a school board member, and many other candidates!




MEET THE PRESENTERS

Debby is a certified Minnesota elections administrator. She is a seasoned county leader with deep experience in nonprofit organizations, budgeting, government operations, communication, and volunteer management.
She is known for a service‑driven approach and strong community focus, supported by a BA in Business Management from The College of St. Scholastica.

Debby is a collaborative professional in local elections administration, contributing at the state and national levels to advance best practices and strengthen processes for local election administrators. She has been recognized for building partnerships, elevating standards, and ensuring effective, community‑centered public service.

Mike brings over two decades of experience in government affairs, political strategy, and community advocacy. Mike served as Mayor of Jordan, Minnesota, where he and his wife Amanda are raising their four children. In addition to his role as Mayor, Mike’s public service career includes serving as a City Councilmember, Economic Development Authority member, and active leader in their home parish of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Throughout his career, Mike has worked across diverse sectors—leading initiatives for political candidates, nonprofit organizations, multinational corporations, and community-based interests. His unique background as an elected official, fundraiser, lobbyist, communications professional, and strategic advisor equips him with the experience to drive change and serve the diverse needs of our clients.

Paul small business owner, and longtime public servant. He served in the legislature for 14 years, serving in both the Minnesota House of Representatives and the Minnesota Senate. First elected to the House in 2004, he later won a Senate seat in 2010 and went on to serve as Senate Majority Leader.

Paul earned a business management degree from Oral Roberts University before building a career as an insurance agent and agency owner in Baxter. In the legislature, he focused on taxes, insurance, state budgeting, and major policy issues from transportation to health care.
