Description
Collaborations Concert
Thursday, April 24 at 7 pm | Bryan Johnson Auditorium at Aitkin High School
The Collaborations Concert features the Legacy Youth Chorale and choirs from Aitkin Public Schools. The choirs involved include LYC’s Choristers and Concert Choir, the Aitkin 5th Grade Choir, and Aitkin High School’s Concert Choir & Madrigals. Legacy Youth Chorale’s spring program includes folk music from around the world, including songs from Korea, South Africa, Scotland, and the Caribbean. Aitkin’s choirs will be presenting a variety of selections from their repertoire, sure to engage audiences of all ages. The program will conclude with a combined finale, bringing all of the choirs to sing together.
Aitkin elementary music teacher Lucy Swanson expressed enthusiasm about this concert as a growth opportunity for the singers involved: “Choir is about singing, and so much more. When we have the chance to collaborate with other choirs, we can learn from each other. We are developing leadership skills, learning to be flexible, and performing for a wide audience. Our younger students have the chance to see the choirs in which they could perform one day.”
Aitkin High School choir director Jennifer Johnson expressed similar sentiments, reflecting on the community that is built through singing together: “Our AHS Concert Choir members all share a common love for singing and sharing the joy of music with others, but to all of us, choir is about so much more than that. Over the course of the year, we build community with one another and truly grow to become a choir “family.” It’s a place of belonging where every singer and every voice is needed and celebrated. Music truly unites us all in a way that nothing else can and we are so excited to collaborate and build community with many of our own Rippleside singers, singers from all over the lakes area in the Legacy Youth Chorale, and our wonderful audience.”
Ticket information: Tickets are available online at legacychorale.org or at the door. Admission is by donation, utilizing a pay what you wish model. All seating is general admission.
The Collaborations Concert is supported locally by Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union and the Mille Lacs Energy Community Trust.
