2025 Eggs & Issues Legislative Breakfast | SOLD OUT

Friday, February 28, 2025 (7:30 AM - 9:30 AM) (CST)

Description

Join the Chamber and Presenting Sponsor Crow Wing Power for Eggs & Issues, our annual legislative discussion on business, jobs and the economy. With a chaotic start, renewed split-party control and a $2 billion projected deficit, lawmakers will face tough decisions while businesses navigate new regulations and rising costs. This is your chance to meet Brainerd Lakes Area legislators, ask questions, and share concerns that impact your business.

All proceeds support the Chamber's government affairs work as "the voice of business." Led by our Government Affairs Committee, we joined forces with more than 50 statewide chambers to adopt our 2025 legislative priorities.

Let’s Keep Minnesota Competitive
Minnesota’s rising costs and taxes make it harder for businesses to grow and invest. With a $2 billion deficit, the state has an opportunity to ease the burden. Reducing taxes, like 27 other states have done, will strengthen businesses and jobs.

Fix the Broken Permitting Process
State permitting delays slow business expansion and cost Minnesota $900 million annually in lost economic activity. With review times up to six times longer than neighboring states, streamlining approvals will help businesses grow while maintaining strong environmental protections.

Reduce the Burden of Paid Leave Mandates
New leave mandates added costs and staffing challenges for small businesses already facing workforce shortages. A thoughtful approach—delaying Paid Family & Medical Leave by a year, simplifying rules, and deterring fraud—will give employers time to adjust while supporting employees.

Build a Stronger Workforce
Workforce shortages remain a major challenge, but bipartisan solutions are within reach. Expanding training, connecting students to careers, and improving housing and childcare will help businesses find and retain skilled workers, strengthening Minnesota’s economy.

Invest in High-Impact Projects
Tourism fuels BLA businesses. The National Loon Center and WonderTrek Museum are ready to create year-round economic impact. With private support secured, state bonding will ensure these projects move forward, benefiting businesses and communities across the region.
