This session will cover the key steps in obtaining commercial financing for your business.  This can be a daunting and confusing process.  The goal of the session is to provide answers to questions you have and outline the steps required to successfully secure financing.

  • Hear from local finance experts that can answer your questions on any updates about PPP, EIDL, or other COVID-related loans/grants through SBA/SBDC financing.
  • Understand what to have in place before you seek financing and some of the best finance practices to make financing more obtainable.


About Our Speakers

Julie Anderholm, Business Consultant; SBDC, North Central Region

Julie Anderholm completed her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management with an emphasis in Accounting and Finance.  She worked as a healthcare finance professional in the areas of auditing and financial forecasting for both Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and Aetna Insurance.  She began independent financial consulting through the Small Business Development Center in Rochester, Minnesota and for the past 26 years with the SBDC in Brainerd, MN.  She consults with small businesses concentrating on financial analysis and forecasting as well as general business information.  For the past 10 years, she has also taken on independent financial consulting roles with various non-profit entities.
 
Julie serves on the boards of the Brainerd Lakes Area Economic Development Corporation, the Women’s Leadership Fund and Happy Dancing Turtle as well as the finance committee for the YMCA.  She is a member of the Brainerd Noon Rotary and is a member of their Foundation Board  Julie is an active member of Lutheran Church of the Cross, where she has served as a Sunday School teacher, Confirmation Leader and Mentor.  In her spare time, Julie likes to garden and run – she has completed 5 marathons.  Julie resides in Nisswa, Minnesota with her husband and has three grown children.


Mike Paulus, Executive Director; Cass County Economic Development Corporation

Mike Paulus has been Executive Director of the 501(c)(3) Cass County Economic Development Corporation since 2016. He also serves as a Business Consultant and Administrator of a satellite Small Business Development Center for the North Central Region SBDC. He excels in financial analysis, able to direct companies of all sizes using sound fiscal consideration of the issues. Also, since 2008, Mike has been a regional leader in loan packaging and providing “financial health checks” to businesses in the Region-5 area. Prior to his arrival in Minnesota, Mike moved through a long-tenured tract in health care administration, culminating in service as a Nursing Home Administrator for three years.

Mike currently serves as Director on the Essentia Health Brainerd Lakes Board of Directors, Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union Board of Directors and as a Member of the Minnesota Business Finance Corporation’s Loan Committee. He is also a Partner and Chief Financial Officer of Pasano Properties, LLC, a housing development company with a mission to bring affordable metro-quality modern luxury housing to small cities in Greater Minnesota.


Rebecca Rowe, Director; SBDC, North Central Region
Rebecca Rowe is the Director of the North Central Small Business Development Center (SBDC). She joined the North Central SBDC in January 2021 and previously worked for the federal government in financial and portfolio management at the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). DFC is America’s development bank and partners with the private sector to finance solutions to the most critical challenges facing the developing world today. Prior to DFC, Rebecca worked at the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) with investment funds, innovation programming, policy, government contracting, business development, and size standards.
 
Rebecca was selected as a Presidential Management Fellow and served in the Peace Corps in Azerbaijan and as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) in Clarkston, Georgia. She resides in Aitkin and enjoys reading, fresh air, and most outdoor activities.


Matthew Dickinson, JM Consultants
Matthew Dickinson has 16+ years in Banking and has held many titles within his career. On a day-to-day basis, Matt helps financial institutions gain and maintain their knowledge base to manage their IRA portfolio. He works at a fast pace and is able to win clients and prospects over by how he operates—focusing on the consequences of not moving from the status quo. Matt wants to create a lifelong relationship with his customers.
