DESCRIPTION:The Whitefish Area Property Owners Association invites community members\, property owners and visitors to attend its 2026 annual meeting Saturday\, Aug. 22\, in the Immaculate Heart Church Social Hall in Crosslake. Doors open at 8 a.m. with registration\, a complimentary continental breakfast and an open house featuring local organizations and community partners. The annual business meeting begins at 9 a.m.\, followed by two presentations focused on protecting the Whitefish Chain. The featured program includes a presentation from the Pine River Watershed Alliance and Northern Waters Land Trust on their recent merger and shared vision for protecting land and water resources\, followed by an update from John Kempe\, acting Brainerd Area Fisheries supervisor with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources\, on recent changes and developments related to fishing on the Whitefish Chain.The meeting will include updates on WAPOA's efforts to protect water quality\, combat aquatic invasive species\, restore shorelines and advocate for the long-term health of the Whitefish Chain. For more than 55 years\, WAPOA has worked alongside property owners\, volunteers\, local governments and conservation partners to protect the Whitefish Chain. Member support helps fund water quality monitoring\, aquatic invasive species prevention\, shoreline restoration\, education and advocacy that benefit the lakes today and for future generations. "The annual meeting is an opportunity to learn about the work being done to protect the Whitefish Chain while connecting with neighbors and organizations that share that commitment\," WAPOA President Tony Coffey said in a news release. "Whether you've been involved with WAPOA for years or are simply interested in the future of our lakes\, we hope you'll join us." The annual meeting is free and open to everyone.
